To say it's been hot these past few weeks is an understatement! For anybody that has managed to get to the gym or head out for a run, I have so much respect for you. How have I fared on that front? Well, I'll be honest, not great! So, how can we all stay motivated when the weather is hot hot hot?!
When you don’t have much time on your hands to sit down and read, podcasts are a great way to take in information on the move. Here’s my run down of some of my favourite health and fitness podcasts!
In all the chaos of our busy lives, it’s crucial we find a quiet moment every now and then. That’s what I was trying to achieve when I went to my first Just Breathe event recently. Read all about how it went here!
So it turns out that working a full time job, staying fit and healthy, whilst also recording it all in a blog is super time-consuming! Sorry for not writing a blog for, oh, about 4 months!!! Here’s why…
Happy New Year everybody!! I hope you had a delightful New Year’s Eve doing whatever you were doing and eating and drinking whatever you desired! Have you made any New Year's resolutions yet? If you have and one of them is to lose weight, before you embark upon it, let me tell you about my mostly hate relationship with that particular goal and how I made it much more positive and achievable!
It's taken a while but I've finally resigned myself to the fact that summer has well and truly left me and winter really is here for the long haul. Now that it’s cold and dark, I’m finding it an altogether different challenge to stay focused and motivated on the health and fitness front. However, I’m trying my best to push through and, after an initial blip, so far it appears to be working!!!
One of the things that often falls by the wayside when you’re rushing to catch your early train is that oh so important fuel, breakfast. Often when I’m pressed for time, I’ll grab a quick smoothie before I head out the door. As requested by some of you, here are some delicious and speedy recipes for you to try! All you need is a blender and the ingredients! Simple and speedy!!
Since I’ve been cycling into work, it’s surprised me how many people (even born and bred Londoners) have asked me with concern whether I feel safe on the roads. So I thought it might be interesting if I wrote a short little blog to tell you about the realities of riding on the road and tips for staying safe, including pimping up my bike to resemble a disco ball! Here, I hope to dispel some fears...especially my Mum's, who I'm sure is thoroughly unconvinced by my constant reassurances to her that I'm safe!
I’m immensely proud of my nearest and dearest. They’re all doing amazingly well; whether that’s with their careers, relationships, families, or because they’re just awesome individuals full stop. So why then are so many of the people I know (including me) so hard on themselves? Yes, okay, we all need to be a little tough on ourselves, otherwise we wouldn’t achieve anything BUT we also need to start recognising how well we’re doing and give ourselves a bloody break once in while!!
Do you ever have times when you are totally not up for doing a workout? Er, dur, of course you do and I'm totally with you!! But then there are those magical moments when you stick your headphones on, put on your favourite workout playlist and somehow suddenly you're feeling pumped and ready to go!! This week I've put together a list of some of my favourite workout tracks. I guarantee it'll make you want to get up out of bed and get sweating!!
You've probably heard it being preached about before but since I've been on my mission to get fitter, I've definitely learnt more than ever how important it is to get others to join you on your journey. If you're finding it tough to get up in the morning and motivate yourself to do some sweating, or if you're intimidated to go to a new gym or exercise class, find someone to go with you!
It often seems impossible to get a handle on everything, doesn't it? When you think you have one thing down, another goes tits up. I've found that lately. Work is going pretty well and I'm finding time to work out more and eat healthily. However, what I'm finding I have less time for is sleep!
How can I change my bad habits and find a way of disciplining myself to get to bed?!!
Not only does cycling to the office give me a guaranteed workout each day (twice a day) without having to find extra time, it makes me feel great, it wakes me up and engages my brain before work, it puts me in a good mood (well, most of the time anyway!), and it pretty much guarantees that I get to where I'm going in the same amount of time each day; no traffic, no tube delays! As cycling is making me feel so fantastic, I've been wondering what the actual health benefits are for me
Having a hectic life not only means it can be difficult to fit exercise into our schedules, it can also be difficult to fit in that pretty crucial element we all need....food!!! Obviously we all know (or should do!) that this is terrible for our health. So how can we possibly make sure that we're getting that healthy diet we all need?
Recently I've been wondering what my sedentary job is doing to my body and what I can do to counter-act any negative effects. That led me down a googling rabbit hole and I've put together what I hope is a helpful summary of how we can all try to keep ourselves healthy, even if we sit on our butt for the majority of the day!
I recently announced that I was going to start braving the traffic and cycle to work!! After now experiencing life as a helmet wearing commuter, the overall verdict is....I think I'm hooked! Don’t get me wrong, it hasn’t all been smooth cycling; there have been some mishaps along the way and elements of the experience that haven’t been quite as enjoyable. However, it's definitely done the trick of allowing me to fit exercise into my daily routine despite being super busy at work...and man have I been busy!!!
A demanding career means it can often be extremely challenging to find the time to exercise and eat healthily as regularly as I’d like. The aim of this blog is to record the difficulties so many of us suffering from "busy life syndrome" face trying to keep up with life and take care of ourselves, both physically and mentally. In short, I'll be keeping you all posted about my struggles and successes, and, hopefully, a variety of tips and life hacks can be shared between us along the way!
